Hello Electro Geeks,
It is my pleasure to start writing about the scenario of the VLSI industry through vlsi pd blogspot, with the help of my esteemed connections. Whether it be college grads, engineers not satisfied with current job, IT guys, people preparing for competitive exams have questions about VLSI physical design course. As I have been trained in one of the institutes in Bangalore. I am very glad to clear some of the doubts asked by my fellow engineers in the same field.
As time progresses i shall also contribute my notes and materials to refer from. Recruiters can visit my blog, facebook page, google+ page to employ right candidates, where candidates can upload their grad certificates, course certificate to get hired. In this forum requirements from other sites will be kept posted so that techies can directly contact the recruiters.
In the minds of young engineers arise a variety of questions, which have made me accountable to answer. Though the curiosity varies but the questions are the same. Many young careers are dependent on the answers they get, their search options may vary but can assure a righteous advice is intake of a detailed research. Hence my effort is to provide one more dimension to your research and gain your confidence to provide quality content for free, for just time. Discovering options to understand and share knowledge through different ways and means vedio, pics, doc, pdf to share in depth knowledge in the vast field of electronics.
My blog will always be open for your suggestions for improvement.
Some of the questions I have tried to answer :
First of all, I want to elaborate upon physical design definition : It is designing of a physical entity, here a chip, a chip is designed so that it works on par with the power, performance, area requirements. as the technology node is reduces it becomes a great challenge to meet all these requirements in addition to timing. Hence it is necessary to incorporate the cut techniques to give provide maximum functionality of a chip.
4. Is training necessary for getting placement?

- Career scope in VLSI PD?
- The history of the semiconductor industry in India dates back to the mid 1980s, when multinational giants from U.S. started outsourcing chip design and SW development to India to take advantage of the low labour costs and talent pool. India’s semiconductor market has seen significant growth over the last decade, which accounts for less than five percent of the global market though.
- VLSI industry has a huge scope when it comes to employment. A techie who is passionate in this field and commits to work hard can definetly reach the top of the ladder very fast.
- Experienced candidates are mostly preferred due to low cost of investment.
At present, there are around 170 companies in India which are working in the
areas of chip design, embedded software development and board design. India
VLSI design service market is driven by both captive and non-captive
design centres. These design centres are designing chips in a factory model for
all the major industry verticals including Telecommunications, Networking,
Consumer Electronics, Industrial, Healthcare, Automotive, and other sectors.
2. courses on vlsi services
Various course are offered in the vlsi domain from architecture, planning, to final verification engineers.
- End to End design services for OEM's
- Physical Design Services
- ASIC Design Verification Services
- Synthesis & Static Timing Analysis
- DFT
- Courses offered by Chipedge and their contacts
other domain includes engineers need for SoC design flow -RTL, netlist, verification, etc.
3. Salary
VLSI industry high margins compared to IT, but all boils down to the quality and maximum optimisation the work needs.
- Training definitely provides an edge over those without it, provides placement assistance arrange interviews, provide study materials, certification, etc.
- But for recent grads, there are companies directly taking and training them on new technologies, you just need to confirm on which domain you are getting hired.
- For professionals who are pursuing job, not content can upgrade their skills through training, but still would have to work as a fresher in a new domain , i.e, VLSI PD, if they get through the interview process.
- Finally, it is necessary to crack the interview whether you are certified or not, because VLSI is a field which is in great demand and need dynamic professionals who can learn and are passionate devote their full time in a core area which according to Moore's law still scaling.
5. What is the rate of placements in different training institutes and ChipEdge, Bangalore?
- As I have been trained from ChipEdge, they provide 4 interviews. They rate of this process is very slow. I do not recommend to depend on placements from ChipEdge since placements is low.
- But the companies coming for intake are good, they send maximum 5 candidates to appear for the interview.
- Training is relatively better as you can understand the basics, but have to do self study more cutting edge techniques.
- It also depends on the performance, as competition is large, companies usually prefer recent grads BE / ME ECE, EEE, EIE, all fields related to Electronics can apply.
- According to the recent report Maven, Bangalore ranks highest in training and placements assurance. 6. vlsi pd pdf notes to crack the interview.
- Many have asked for the vlsi pd notes which i have handwritten, it will take time to to be typed and uploaded. Notes and vedios just gives the overall picture of the vlsi working from architecture to sign off but you need to prepare for extra cutting edge tools to improve your skills to excel in this competition.
- I shall regularly post the questions which are frequently asked in the interviews, practice questions and answers, general VLSI theory which would be helpful in gaining more depth to the subject.
7. What are the semiconductors houses which hire freshers and trained techies?
- There is a certain hiring season that these companies hunt for talent when the demand for these products increase they need people to work on those projects.
- Most often the demand is for 3 years + experience vlsi expert where companies need not spend on training, arranging entrance interviews, experience fresher's world of doubts and silly mistakes.
- But there are companies that hire recent grads, mostly posted on LinkedIn, which I shall keep you guys posted on.

8. Other fields in IT.
For graduates in Computer Science and IT there is huge scope . Also if engineers can opt to work in these new domains having bright future with government backing.
- There is huge demand for AI, machine learning, Data Science, etc. in the Computer Science and IT fields which recent grads can explore, since each field needs hard work. It is the your choice to work in the field of your choice.
Conclusion :
A job best done when you give beyond what is required, quality matters everywhere which is respected in all domains.
There are many things in life to do, earning money doing a technical job needs hard work to produce quality content that makes you shine out. Apart from that you inner abilities to mingle and be kind hearten and accept whatever comes your way.
